Ok, I'll be the first to admit that I know nothing about horses or the health issues that they face. If they break their ankles, I don't know if this is an easy injury to treat. But in this age of modern medicine, I'm sure it's treatable.
Today, at the Kentucky Derby, a horse broke named Eight Belles broke both front ankles during the race, and "had" to be euthanized on the track "immediately". Why did they have to euthanize her? You exploit the horse and train it for racing it's whole life, and when it can't do it anymore you just kill it? What the hell?! The horse gave you everything, and you just get rid of it after it gets injured?! Why not treat it's injuries?! Sure, it likely can't race for you anymore, but it is a living animal capable of more than just racing!
It's because of things like this that I don't go to horse races. I don't support them, and probably never will.
